Favorite Restaurant(s): We don’t eat out a lot, but I do love CafĂ© Rio when I get a chance. It may not be my absolute favorite of all time, but not living near one for 4 years has helped me appreciate a good pork salad!!
Favorite Foods: My favorite food is probably chocolate. ;) If chocolate doesn’t count, I’d have to say bread – any type of bread – especially homemade bread with oil and vinegar or homemade jam.
Inspiration to Cook: I go through cooking spurts. Sometimes I just cook so we can eat, but other times I get really excited about it – usually when I’m trying new things or making some special dish for a special occasion. I love cooking a big traditional childhood Sunday dinner for my family (but not every Sunday). I love cooking for company. I love cooking with my husband, children, family and friends – that always adds incentive. I love making birthday cakes and special treats. I also love making the first seasonal foods for that year – I’m really getting excited for soups and more fall-ish foods. Today I baked cookies and rolls because it was finally cool enough to turn my oven back on.
Feelings about New Foods: I love to try new things!! Both my husband and I have moved around a bit and learned to love new foods. Some of our favorites are traditional Mexican, Salvadorian, Bolivian, Italian, Thai and Chinese dishes. I really want to learn to make some Indian food –bring on the curry and roti.
At the Table: I love to entertain – it makes me happy to sit around with family and good friends enjoying a meal. (Chances are too, that if we have friends for dinner, they won’t throw dinner across the room and demand ice cream or Popsicles if they don’t like it. I guess it’s gratifying to see someone actually eat the food I prepare – can you tell I live with toddlers?)
Here at Saltbox House, we have been inspired by Michelle and chose her as September's author of the month because of her passion for mixing culture and food. She has been with us as a Saltbox House author since the beginning of our expansion. Because of her taste for ethnic foods, she brings more to this blog than diversity; she brings delicious creations! She has provided a great selection of recipes for this blog and as the fall season sets in, we look forward to her many more “fall-ish” foods. Let the creativity begin!
