Favorite Foods:
I love rice! Whether it is a side dish or in sushi.
I love dessert with anything chocolate such as chocolate ship cookies and brownies.
I like a good steak and good homemade meals from scratch.

Favorite Restaurant(s):
I don't really have a favorite restaurant, but I like to go out to eat Sushi, Thai food, and if I am at the beach, I like to go to a local seafood restaurant.

Inspiration to Cook:
I do not like to cook except breakfast. I am only inspired to cook because I want to provide nutritious meals for my family.

Feelings about New Foods:
I am not picky and I am willing to try anything new to eat or make. I am particular as to where the food comes from and how it is processed though so, I may not try the newest thing at a fast food place than I would try a new fruit at the farmers market.

At the Table:
I like to throw parties and have good things to eat even if I am not the only one making them. I prefer guests bringing a special dish to enhance the variety and quantity of food for all of us to enjoy.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Lindsay and chose her to be our featured author for the month of April. Ever since we've known Lindsay, she has had amazing ideas of what to do and change in recipes. She has a keen sense of ingredients and always seems to find a way to make a regular dish healthier. She has been a great addition to our blog in many aspects and we feel honored to have her on here with us. Thank you Lindsay!

the best selling 101 Things To Do With A Cake Mix.

Author of her latest "200" edition of her cookbook series and Cake Mix -Cooking for Kids- cookbook.

Has appeared in numerous television programs, radio shows, newspapers, and magazines nationwide.

Favorite Foods:
Living in Tucson, I would say my favorite category of food has to be Mexican. My second favorite category of food is CHOCOLATE. Add peanut butter to the chocolate and you have one happy lady.

Favorite Restaurant:
I have favorite restaurants in various locations. In Tucson, my favorite is La Olla, a small Mexican restaurant that serves the BEST calabacitas. In Utah, I love Cafe Rio salads and Los Hermanos' Smoothered Burrito.

Inspiration to Cook:
Holidays and special events get me excited about cooking. My grandmothers inspired me to learn how to cook. Both of my grandmothers were phenomenal chefs who passed that love to me. My children and their busy schedules inspire me to continue searching for ways to save time and simplify the meal time preparation.

Feelings About New Foods:
I love trying new foods. As my children have gotten older, I love the fact that the older ones are excited to try new things as well.

At the Table:
Do you enjoy cooking for others (entertaining) or do you like to keep it in the family? I love baking for others. I love that holidays always give me an excuse to make treats. During the years that I worked on multiple cookbooks at the same time, I became everyone's favorite neighbor. I would sample and call neighbors to bring bowls or dishes over to collect food. When we moved away from BYU married student housing, we had some very sad neighbors.

This month's Author Spotlight- Michelle E.

Favorite Foods:
One favorite food? Hmmm… I don’t think I can pick just one. I really love seasonal foods. I love turkey with sausage and red cabbage and everything that goes with it at Thanksgiving. I love wassail when it starts to get cold outside. I love my mom’s and grandma’s au gratin potatoes, homemade jam and homemade cinnamon rolls at Christmas-time. Ice cream and slush are my summer favorites. I can’t pick. Maybe I just love all food. Oh wait – unless chocolate counts.

Favorite Restaurant(s):
I’m easy to please when it comes to restaurants. I’m just thrilled that someone else is going to do my dishes. J I love CafĂ© Rio, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Porcupine Grill (in Salt Lake City) and the weird Japanese place just down the street from me. Some I love for the food and others for sentimental reasons.

Inspiration to Cook:
I love to cook. (Just wish I had a magic button to clean up after.) Cooking for other people and cooking for special occasions gets me most excited, but I really do like cooking just for the sake of cooking. (I guess eating inspires me too – I really like to eat yummy food).

Feelings about New Foods:
I love trying new recipes. I’m always on the lookout for something new. I have a few rotating dinners that I cook all the time, but I love to branch out and try new things – especially unique or foreign things. We buy baskets of fruit and veggies from Bountiful Baskets and that keeps things interesting. I get a basket of new stuff on Saturday and have to figure out what to do with it all so we don’t waste any. It’s been a fun and exciting challenge! We’ve even gotten fruits and veggies that we’ve never seen before. My kids love it!

At the Table:
I love to entertain! I love cooking for friends and making special dinners for my husband and me. It makes me feel good and I get a chance to branch out and try new things. (Yes, I do sometimes try new recipes on friends…) I also love cooking with friends! I love learning from the way other people do things!

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Michelle and chose her to be our featured author for the month of November. Ever since we've known Michelle, she has been a delight to have as both a friend and a culinary comrade. She has been a great addition to our blog in many aspects and we feel honored to have her on here with us. This month's Featured Blogger- Recipe Dutchess from Natalie's Sediments

Photo provided by Natalie P.
Natalie P.- Recipe Dutchess   from Natalie's Sediments

Favorite Foods:
I LOVE Thai food. I took a Thai cooking class in college and I've loved it ever since. Though I never cook it anymore. Fish Sauce is just way to stinky to keep around I could eat good Mexican food every day as well. I make a mean salsa.

Favorite Restaurant:
I like good ambiance just as much as good food. So I like a restaurant that provides both. I like European restaurants for that. I love to eat al fresco. Of course, my favorite restaurant of all time was a Chinese restaurant in Spokane that was a totally dive. I cried when it closed.

Inspiration to Cook:
I love figuring out things to make with fresh food. Bountiful baskets gives a lot of inspirations. I wouldn't normally buy something like collard greens, but once I have it, I like to figure something out. And I really like baking. Can't make bread though. I need to some help with that one.

Feelings About New Foods:
I do, but I have texture issues. So a lot of seafood is gross to me. Raw fish? Um, no thanks. But I try to try new things on menus as often as possible.

At the Table:
I like to entertain. My family is spoiled and I like my efforts to be used on people who appreciate it. Someday, I'll be a party planner like Ina Garten.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Natalie and chose to feature her this month because of her passion for motherhood and the journeys it takes her on. Not to mention, her appreciation for food. This is also why we would like to acknowledge her as fellow food blogger. We are so excited to show you all of Natalie's delicious recipes, craft creations, and personal insights, that we provided our top five food posts and her Blog button for you to enter her site.

This month's featured Blogger-A Recovering Craft Hoarder

Lyndee H.- A Recovering Craft Hoarder

Favorite Foods:
I am completely into green salads right now. Maybe because it was summer, maybe it's because I don't feel guilty when I eat them. I enjoy just about any type of green salad. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Favorite Restaurant:
My favorite restaurant right now is probably Q'doba's and similar restaurants. The veggie taco salad. Seriously, it is so light and fresh and makes my mouth happy.

Inspiration to Cook:
I am not generally excited about cooking, but it's a necessary evil. What inspires me to cook is the savings. It cost a whole lot less to eat at home than to eat out. Recipes that are simple and taste great are by far what get me most excited about cooking. I have ordered all of Pampered Chef's 29 Minutes to Dinner cookbooks. While I have some tried and true recipes, I like to keep things interesting by trying out new recipes.
Feelings About New Foods:
I LOVE trying new things; as long as they consist of ingredients I have heard of and don't contain to many complicated steps. The best part is tasting new recipes!
At the Table:
I enjoy cooking yummy food for others. I have to be honest, I am a bit of an egomaniac, and look forward to my guest complimenting the menu. If my house would remain clean on it's own, I would have people over more often. Nothing better than eating and talking with friends and family.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Lyndee and chose to feature her for this month because of her passion for creativity and to promote her to the Food Blogging Community. We are so excited to show you all of Lyndee's delicious recipes, craft creations, and personal insight, that we provided our top five food posts and her Blog button for you to enter her site.

Favorite Foods:
I am a sucker for everything appetizer!
Vegetables and Fruits:
Artichokes, Brussel Sprouts, Asparagus,
Fresh Raspberries, and Mangoes.

Favorite Restaurant(s):
Depending on what mood I am in, I love burgers at Five Guys, Outback's Coconut Shrimp, Salt and Vinegar Fries from Buffalo Wild Wings, and breakfast at Dixie's Diner.

Inspiration to Cook:
I get inspired to try and re-create recipes that I think taste good. Otherwise, when I see a recipe that just looks good, I also have to ask myself is is worth it to make and can it be gluten-free. So, this makes me cautious of new recipes. However, if I know people that have tried them or the recipe has high ratings, I am more inclined to try them. Maybe I am a little skeptical because, it is hard for me to see recipes that people claim "look good" but have not tried them, I need to know the facts I guess.

Feelings about New Foods:
I love to try new things when I go out to restaurants or have dinner at someone's house. In fact, I think that is why I like buffets so much, I can try something new without feeling guilty about time or money!

At the Table:
I do enjoy having people over for a fun and entertaing evening with lots of food to entertain us with :).  Then again, I like to keep it laid back so it is more about eating good food and being with your company than trying to make everything perfect, therefore adding unnecessary stress.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Angelene and chose her as our featured author. Ever since her husband was diagnosed with Ciliac's Diesase, she has had to embrace a new sense of cooking in the Gluten-Free world.  She has been a great addition to our blog in many aspects and we feel honored to have her on here with us. Featured Blogger: Danielle from Tasty Crafts

Danielle L.- Creator of Tasty Crafts

Favorite Foods:
Pizza, french dip sandwiches, and potato soup.
But my favorite things to make are desserts. I love to bake more than I love to cook.

Favorite Restaurant:
I don't have one favorite restaurant. But I do have favorite foods from different restaurants. I love the Black Tie Mousse Cake from Olive Garden, I love the rolls and butter from Texas Road House, the Bloomin Onion from Outback , the Wingers Sticky Finger Salad, and Cafe Rio's Pork Barbacoa Salad, and i love the Chocolate Lava Cakes from Chili's. I also love to re-create, or find copycat recipes for my favorite dishes. And a lot of time we end up liking our versions better!

Inspiration to Cook:
Sometimes what inspires me to cook or bake is just for the excitement of my family as they enjoy a good home cooked meal. My favorite is baking desserts and treats. My husband and boys love when I make cookies or bread, and I love seeing how much they love my baking. It just makes me want to cook and bake more!

Feelings About New Foods:
I love trying new things, especially if it turns out well! I love getting recipes from friends and making it for my family. I also love sharing recipes with others

At the Table:
I love to cook for others! I think it is a fun challenge. It can definitely be a little stressful at times, but it is a lot of fun. My boys and I also love to bake treats and take them to our neighbors.

My Five Top Recipes (as per request)

Favorite Foods:
Seafood, Chocolate souffle, custards, cream puffs, cheesecake, and many more baked goods. (of course all gluten free)

Favorite Restaurant(s):
Depending on the mood I am in I like Red lobster, Cafe Rio, and any place that serves delicious gluten free items.

Inspiration to Cook:
Things I see in cookbooks and magazines (I could just read them all day), something I have heard about when my sisters call me and tell me "you have to try this recipe". Cooking for my boys can make anything a challenge, but that is one I am willing to conquer through creativity.

Feelings about Food:
I am always up to trying new recipes. Especially baked goods for which I am deprived of. These I almost always have to make myself. Even after that, I find it a little hard to share ;).

At the Table:
I love to entertain my family when they come to visit. I think I just like the idea of having a big dinner and all of us together.

Here at Saltbox House, we have been inspired by Rachael's recipes and creativity for trying new things and altering them into a gluten free option not only for herself but also for our readers. We chose her for author of the month because she is a wonderful addition to this blog. Especially in June, we would like to acknowledge another one of her attributes, her green thumb. Rachael has stood by her love of gardening and the bounty it brings to her and her family. To view all of Rachael's current posts such as delicious recipes, cooking creations, and other food topics see link list below:

Favorite Foods:
I don't have a favorite food, but I do like chicken in all different varieties. It can taste delicious when nothing else does. I also like a good tasting shrimp. It has to be a good variety though. I love a good baked potato with sour cream and good string beans. I guess anything can be good (since I seem to say that), but these items top my list.

Favorite Restaurant(s):
I like several, but no one is my favorite. I like Cheesecake factory because it's menu has such a variety. Very few restaurants awe me.

Inspiration to Cook:
Trying something new that looks and taste delicious. Usually the pictures says it all but I found that does not mean it tastes as good as it looks. I like experimenting, and I think cooking brings out the creativity in yourself.

Feelings about Food:
I always like to try new things!

At the Table:
I like cooking for others if I have the stamina to do so. I do not like to entertain as much though, my family is my main concern and I enjoy cooking for them so they have a balanced meal and a variety.

Here at Saltbox House, we have been inspired by Gloria's recipes and enthusiasm for trying new things and chose her for this month's author of the month not only because she is a wonderful addition to this blog, she has inspired the creator of this blog, Madeline L., since Madeline was a child. May celebrates motherhood and Saltbox House would like to acknowledge, a very special mother and the dedication she has made to her family when is comes to dinnertime. To view all of Gloria's current posts such as delicious recipes, cooking creations, and other food topics see link list below:

Favorite Foods:

My favorite food is fillet minon or anything seafood like scallops, salmon, and crab. I do not however, like exotic seafood like octopus or squid.

Favorite Restaurant:
Sullivans

Inspiration to Cook:

I don't really like to cook, but I cook when I need to. I am more of a dinning out kinda gal. If I had my meals delivered or had a personal chef, that would be ideal ;)

Feelings about New Foods:

I always try new things! I am always curious about new foods, restaurants and places that would satisfy my curiosity.

At the Table:

I mostly cook for my family, but I like to attend dinner parties and if I was the host of one, I would definitely have it catered.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Angie's enthusiasm for dining out and chose her for this month's author of the month because of her passion for finding great foods. Even if you love to try new foods, cooking these foods may not be a joy to do at home especially when your favorite foods my be time consuming to prepare. Angie is one of our authors that may prefer take out more than making her meals at home, but one thing she does prides herself on and that is making the meal about the family. To view all of Angie's current posts such as delicious recipes, cooking creations, and other food topics see link list below:

March's Author of the Month

Shalyce P.

England

Saltbox Author Since 2010

Read Her Bio Click Here

Favorite Foods:
I have a couple of favorite foods. My newest fave is a Shoyu Chicken recipe that my friend introduced me to. Next up would have to be another newer recipe to my family: Dad's Basil Linguine and Chicken. Mmmm

Favorite Restaurant(s):
I really don't have a favorite restaurant. Since moving to England, I do find that I miss Olive Garden A LOT!

Inspiration to Cook:
It has only been about 2 years since I really started to enjoy cooking. It all happened when I moved to England in 2010. My inspiration really came from the need to learn how to better budget and make our groceries stretch since England is so expensive. I started finding different ways to cook food I already knew, but with the stipulation that it had to include one new ingredient that I was not familiar with.

Feelings about New Foods:
I love trying new things. If I didn't try new ways or new things to cook, I would become quite bored. I even have a month long menu board so that I can make sure I don't fix the same meal more than a couple of times in one month.

At the Table:
I get pretty nervous when it comes time to cook for others. Heck, I get nervous when I cook for my husband.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Shalyce and chose her for this month's author of the month because of her passion for trying new things. Having this passion for new ideas and living abroad can be challenge that she continues to over come.  She is also our new Tupperware Representative for Saltbox House. Click her to visit here site. October's Author of the Month- Heather C.

Heather C.

Idaho

Saltbox Author since 2009

Favorite Restaurant(s): Probably Texas Roadhouse. But I do like the wings at Wingers (they go great with sticky rice!).

Favorite Foods: My favorite food is sticky rice. I could eat that stuff all day. And it goes with anything! Meat, veggies, fruit (just add a little coconut milk and sugar to it)...

Feelings about Food: I love to try new things! I have a little motto when it comes to new foods: Try everything twice--you never know if it is just the way a recipe was prepared, or if it really is a gross recipe. :)

At the Table: I love to cook for others. My family likes plain, basic foods, so if I'm ever in the mood for something fancy, I have to round up other people to come help eat it.
Here at Saltbox House, we have been inspired by Heather and chose her as October's author of the month because of her fun and creative posts. She has been a Saltbox House author since the beginning of our expansion and with her fast and easy recipes have been a great addition to our blog. With the holidays coming up, it is nice to have these recipes to take to any party or celebration. August's Author of the Month- Abby L.

Abby L.

Favorite Restaurant(s): My favorite restaurant is a total guilty pleasure... Big Judd's in Archer, Idaho. Home of the 1lb burger. I have to eat there EVERY time I go home! Love it.

Favorite Foods: Pasta is probably my favorite food and pumpkin pie will always be my TOP dessert! I can never get enough.

Inspiration to Cook: I love to BAKE. My husband, Seth, is a great cook and I think I hold my own pretty well but baking is where it's at for me. Usually if I see a picture of something yummy then I want to make it. Pretty simple! And I love sharing new foods or my best recipes with neighbors and friends so that I don't have to eat it all myself.

Feelings about New Foods: I really love to try new things to a degree. For some reason I have a "slight" seafood phobia. I don't know why but I think I need someone to show me how to cook it well. I will try cooking almost anything new if it's a yummy dessert! :)

At the Table: I like to cook for others but I usually keep it in the family. Unless, like I said before, I bake something yummy and there is a huge pan I pass it around to my friends and neighbors. I love to share recipes and trade with other people. Up here in Sandpoint I have a great group of friends that love cooking like I do and we are constantly trading our best stuff with each other. I would also like to add that about a year ago my sister put together a cookbook of favorite recipes of all my aunts, uncles and cousins. When we get together for family outings it is ALL about the food and we love sharing that with each other. The cookbook is one of my most cherished possessions!

July's Author of the Month

Heather B.
Montana
Saltbox House Author since 2009
Read Her Bio Click Here

Favorite Restaurant(s):
Olive Garden. We don't have one anywhere near us (3 hours away is the closest) We still have to suffer through the commercials though, and I want to go there SO BAD!

Favorite Foods:
My favorite food is sourghum flour cake. mmmmm.... As far as a main course though I would have to pick Chili-lime chicken :) I LOVE guacamole and if there is anything I can add it too, I LOVE it :)

Inspiration to Cook: My kids inspire me to cook. I want them to eat healthy and to be healthy. Part of being healthy for us means that we can not eat Gluten products or products with dye in them. It makes it a little more challenging, especially at first. now I hardly give it a second thought. I enjoy taking regular recipes and making them gluten free. I also enjoy experimenting with new flours.

Feelings about New Foods: *I* like to try new foods.  My kids on the other hand... They are getting used to it though.

At the Table:  We enjoy cooking for others.  We often have people over for dinner. We hear all the time that you can hardly tell it is gluten free outside of one or 2 differences.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Heather and chose her as July's author of the month because of her influence in Gluten Free Cooking. She has been a Saltbox House author since the beginning of our expansion and has helped expand the gluten free recipes of this blog to what it is today! In recognition of Summer treats and fun, we believe that no one should be left out when it comes to peach cobbler, fourth of July cake, or even having a burger or hotdog without a bun. Gluten free cooking can be a big demand in your household, but it shouldn’t and we should explore and discover all that food can offer at the family table regardless. May's Author of the Month: Alison L.

Alison L.
Texas

Saltbox House Author since 2009

Favorite Restaurant(s):
We don't go out to eat much, but my favorite restaurant in Utah was Bajio Grill. It served the same type of food as Cafe Rio but I like their tortillas better and never stood in a long line<-- major bonus points there. I haven't found a new favorite place yet here in Texas.

Favorite Foods:
I would say my favorite food is anything I didn't cook. Isn't that awful? While I enjoy recipes and making new foods, the ultimate tasting experience is trying something fabulous that I didn't prepare and, best of all, something I won't have to clean up! But to be specific, I like home-style food. Breads (I know, carbs!), yummy potatoes (carbs!), and pasta (carbs, again!) dominate my recipe box. I am not a sweet tooth and rarely makes desserts.

Inspiration to Cook:With young kids, we are kind of hampered by their undeveloped tastes. I get tired of the same old thing and so I take two approaches 1. having the same old things be fast and easy or 2. trying new dishes that are familiar but different enough to be a little exciting to the grown ups in this house.

Feelings about New Foods:I love, love, love to collect new recipes. Even if the new recipe is for something I regularly cook. Just a little change makes the familiar a lot more fun.

At the Table:I don't really enjoy cooking for others, but that is due to insecurity. I have known so many wonderful cooks (my mother being the best) that I'm a little shy about sharing my skills. Which is probably why I don't post here enough.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Alison and chose her as May's author of the month because of her hard work as a mother and creative blog designer. She has been our technical support for Saltbox House since the beginning of our expansion and has helped make this blog what it is today! In recognition of Mother's Day this month, we believe that cooking can be a big demand in your household, but we should explore and discover all that food can offer at the family table. Favorite Foods:

My all time favorite food is Popcorn cooked on the stove not the microwave!

My favorite thing to eat (right now it often changes): Brown Rice, Smoked Salmon, wilted down kale all wrapped up in seaweed (so basically a sushi burrito) with soy sauce and wasabi of course.

Inspiration to Cook:

I love cooking always have and hope I always will. I don't ever feel like not cooking, though sometimes I don't always feel like cleaning up the mess. One of the best ways to spend time with friends and family is to cook a meal together. My kids help in the kitchen all the time and I truly feel if they join in the fun of meal preparation they are more likely and eager to eat what they have cooked. In this fast paced convenience food society I want to instill the value to homemade meals and sitting down together in my children.

Feelings about New Foods:

I love trying new foods. Though I am also a bit picky about what I will put into my body. There is so much information out there these days and movies like Food Inc. make me really think twice about the foods I buy and what I feed my family. As much as possible I buy organic and locally grown food.

At the Table:

Cooking for others is an absolute passion. We love having friends for dinner and I love helping a friend in need by taking them a home cooked meal.

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Amanda and chose her as April's author of the month because of her creativity with cooking and her desire to use organic and locally grown foods in the meals she makes. In recognition of Earth Day this month, we believe that cooking nutritious foods should come as close to the garden as possible and we encourage everyone to make good choices in the foods they eat and make their families this month. Favorite Foods:
Cheese (especially Dubliner and goat cheeses)
Chocolate
(Yes, I am partial to the typical female food group)

Favorite Restaurant(s):
Since living in three states recently, I had a favorite restaurant in each state. 1-Utah: Log Haven 2-Los Angeles: (so many good ones!) Viva Madrid 3-New York: Black and Blue

Inspiration to Cook:
Many things inspire me to cook, but perhaps the two most driving inspirations for all things culinary are my mother, and my convictions about food and its impact on our lives and, essentially, the earth. My mother is a fantastic cook and baker. I grew up eating from her garden, canned preserves, self-ground wheat, homemade bread, and her other various industrious culinary ambitions. I took this for granted when I was young, but when I got out on my own, I realized not only that the food at home was better, but how much better I felt when I ate my moms 'from scratch food'. I realized that making food for your family is healthier as well as an expression of love. The second main reason I have for cooking is because I honestly believe that you are what you eat. What we eat impacts our bodies, our minds, everyone else, and the earth. I try to make sure that my food choices are not at the expense of anyone/thing else. I am not prefect at this, by any means, but I try.

Feelings about New Foods:
I absolutely love to try new foods and flavors. I will try just about anything (yes, I have eaten things that would make some squirm). I feel like tasting new foods is akin to taking different classes in school. You sure won't learn much from taking only one class. That said, I also enjoy falling back to the favorites and staples in between being adventurous

At the Table:
Entertaining guests, especially for dinner, is something that my family has been known for since my great-grandmother, (quite the socialite). I inherited the 'hospitality' gene and if I had it my way, I would have people over every other night. I just love to feed people good food. ;-)

Here at Saltbox House Cooking Exchange, we have been inspired by Stephani and chose her as March's author of the month because of her soul connection with Irish cooking. Having this connection through her heritage has taught all of us here the way to Irish culture and traditional cooking.
